At Kay and Moby International School, we believe that reading is the gateway to endless possibilities. It sparks imagination, builds knowledge, and lays the foundation for academic success. That is why we are thrilled to announce the launch of a new school-wide initiative: Drop Everything And Read (DEAR).
Beginning immediately, our students will dedicate the first moments of their school day to the simple yet powerful act of quiet, independent reading.
Every morning, before the hustle of regular classroom instruction begins, our campus will transform into a quiet haven of literacy. From our youngest learners in Early Childhood to our Junior High students, everyone will participate. At promptly 7:45 a.m., the signal will be given, and for fifteen peaceful minutes, the only sound will be the turning of pages.
Why It Matters
In a world filled with screens and constant notifications, creating space for deep focus is more important than ever. DEAR Time offers students a daily opportunity to:
Develop Strong Reading Habits: Consistency is key to mastery. Daily reading helps students grow steadily.
Improve Concentration: Quiet reading trains the brain to focus, a skill that benefits every subject.
Foster a Love for Books: When children choose what they read, they discover the joy and adventure waiting on every page.
What Parents Can Do
We encourage families to be partners in this exciting journey. Please support your child by ensuring they come to school each day with a book or reading material of their choice. It could be a novel, a magazine, a biography, or any age-appropriate material that captures their interest. The goal is to make reading a cherished habit, not a chore.
We are incredibly excited to see our students embark on this daily literary adventure. There is something magical about a whole school pausing together to dive into the world of books. We look forward to sharing updates and stories from our DEAR Time moments in the weeks ahead.
Thank you for your continued partnership in making KMIS a place where lifelong learners are nurtured.
Happy Reading!
Warm regards,
The KMIS Management Team
